Seven Weeks I Think

When Nicky was first pregnant with Finn I remember reading all kinds of things at this stage but this time it feels more like an exercise, for me at least, in waiting.

For Nicky it is an exercise is feeling sick most of the time which can’t be much fun.

On the name front we have no firm ideas but I am quite liking Lucinda for a girl or Declan for a boy.

Confirmed

I went to the doctor today to get the results of the blood test and I am definitely pregnant.

This makes it feel a little more real than it did, but it still seems a bit surreal. Much like last time, I don’t think I really believed I would become pregnant, so having it actually happen is a bit of a surprise. More so since it happened so easily.

In terms of care, we are doing things a little differently this time. We don’t really need the hand-holding of having our own obstetrician as we’re more confident this time and we don’t really need the expense because neither of us is working full time. Also the Werribee Mercy Hospital has moved its ante-natal care to the new Austin Hospital in Heidelberg, which is miles away from us. This time I’m being referred to the Royal Women’s Hospital and will have an appointment to see them in a week or two. From there we’ll talk about care options and determine whether I will deal with them all the time or use a shared care arrangement with one of the GPs at our local clinic. I may be considered too ‘high risk’ for the latter because of my age.

As far as boy or girl is concerned, I really don’t mind. A girl would be nice for a change and because I only seem to be able to think of girls’ names. A boy would also be nice, though, because I think Finn would love a little brother … he’d probably love either, but I can see him with a brother. At the end of the day all we’re interested in really is a healthy baby.

The Very Beginning

I should really have written this entry on Wednesday rather than today which is Saturday. Nicky has had indigestion for a few days and I was wondering since that was unusual for her. I finally got around to suggesting a test on Wednesday and after saying she didn’t think she needed one we bought once since we happened to be at the supermaket.

Last time with Finn there were two quite clear lines on the test but this time the crucial line was very faint. So we did another test which was even less clear. Then Nicky went to the doctor, sadly I had to work, and they are doing a blood test.

So we won’t know for sure until Monday but we are pretty sure we have a second baby on the way. This little character should arrive last March 2007 and I think it might be a girl which would be nice. Of course there is no way to know for sure but I was reading about how to make boys or girls more likely and I think the odds lean towards a girl.

Anyhow I am very excited by all of this. I know it will be all quite different especially as I will be back at work and Nicky will spent most time with said baby. But all the same I’m really excited.
