I went to the doctor today to get the results of the blood test and I am definitely pregnant.
This makes it feel a little more real than it did, but it still seems a bit surreal. Much like last time, I don’t think I really believed I would become pregnant, so having it actually happen is a bit of a surprise. More so since it happened so easily.
In terms of care, we are doing things a little differently this time. We don’t really need the hand-holding of having our own obstetrician as we’re more confident this time and we don’t really need the expense because neither of us is working full time. Also the Werribee Mercy Hospital has moved its ante-natal care to the new Austin Hospital in Heidelberg, which is miles away from us. This time I’m being referred to the Royal Women’s Hospital and will have an appointment to see them in a week or two. From there we’ll talk about care options and determine whether I will deal with them all the time or use a shared care arrangement with one of the GPs at our local clinic. I may be considered too ‘high risk’ for the latter because of my age.
As far as boy or girl is concerned, I really don’t mind. A girl would be nice for a change and because I only seem to be able to think of girls’ names. A boy would also be nice, though, because I think Finn would love a little brother … he’d probably love either, but I can see him with a brother. At the end of the day all we’re interested in really is a healthy baby.
