Message To My Girl

November 28, 2006 , 10:50 pm by mark

Dear Leila,

The other night I was having a cuddle with your Mum and I realised that I could feel you kicking away at me. This is something you are clearly very good at.

I am very much looking forward to seeing you in March and promise I will just be trying to bath you not drown you. Don’t worry, Finn had trouble telling the difference and some days he still does.

lots of love

Your Dad.

There doesn’t seem to be a lot to say about Leila at the moment, other than she is quite literally kicking along. She is a busy little body - much busier than I remember Finn being.

She does the usual thing of kicking most at night when I’m trying to go to sleep, or during the early hours when I’m trying to go back to sleep, but she’s also fairly busy throughout the day. Any time I’m not actually on the move I can expect to get at least a couple of bumps and they also occur every now and then when I am moving around. She covers a lot of ground too. Side to side, up, down, she’s all over the place.

And she seems to have a sense of humour about it. Just when I’m used to the busy-ness she’ll go quiet for half a day or so and scare me. Of course, no sooner do I start to give in to the worry that something might be wrong than she’ll burst into life again and give me a pummelling! Read the rest of this entry »

22 weeks

Over the last 3-4 weeks my belly has grown quite noticeably and there can be no doubt that I am much bigger now than I was at the same point with Finn. Mark has speculated that I might even be bigger than I was at full term with Finn. I’m hoping he’s just imagining it because, if it’s true, I hate to think how big I’ll be by March.

I haven’t exactly rejoiced in the growth of my stomach because it has been accompanied by a few slightly unpleasant aspects of pregnancy, such as sore stomach muscles and itchy, stretched skin. I was also starting to feel quite self-conscious about my size.

Sugar And Spice

It seems this little baby is determined to keep us busy. Nicky got a letter today saying she needs a tests for her sugar level later in the week. This is on top of her iron being an issue and that whole chicken pox business.

But even with these little bumps we have a much easier time of it all than heaps of people. I am sure it’s just Leela’s way of letting us know she’s on her way.

What’s in a name?

November 2, 2006 , 7:33 am by mark

I have a tendency to want to correct people when I see them in error, whether they want me to or not. This is not always a good thing, particularly as sometimes people just need to be right - even when they’re wrong. Thanks to a phone discussion with The Mavis yesterday I think I’ve worked out where I got the tendency from.

It seems that both my parents remember my dad’s mother’s middle name as being Lelia (leel-ya), not Leila (Leel-la) as I had thought. The Mavis felt the need to convey this information to me when we rang to wish her happy birthday. With it came the tacit suggestion that, therefore, we are not in fact naming the baby after my grandmother.

When The Doctor Tells Her To Come Out

Rad pointed out the other day that both Leila and Rose were names of companions from Doctor Who.

While this is not how we chose the name she is quite right.
