3 Weeks

It’s hard to believe that Leila has only been with us for 3 weeks. Maybe it’s just because I’m tired, but I find it hard to remember life without our Little Princess.

In the last week Leila has started to wake up more and take a real interest in the things going on around her. She loves to lie under her play gym and gaze intently at the toys while waving her arms at them. She even hits them every now and then. She also likes to hear us talk. At the sound of a familiar voice she will go still and turn her head toward it, listening closely. And she is particularly interested in watching her big brother.

Along with spending more time awake, she has developed a tendency to refuse to go to sleep unless she’s being held. I’m choosing to blame The Mavis for this. In the couple of days she stayed with us she spent a lot of time holding Leila and talking to her. Now the kid’s hooked on cuddles! Between us Mark & I were up for half the night attempting to convince our little darling to go to sleep in her bed and failing miserably. At this stage it’s no great hardship to cuddle her to sleep, but it is something we will have to ensure doesn’t become too much of a habit.

The Princess and The Poo

Leila hadn’t pooed for a couple of days (which is quite OK for a breastfed baby) so I probably shouldn’t have been surprised when she started to defecate as I opened her nappy the other day. But I was.

I waited for her to finish, then wiped her bum and removed the soiled nappy. I was a little hasty, though. There was more to come. Much more.

Leila continued to poo for a good ten minutes. Every now and then she would stop. I would assume she was finished and clean her up, only to have her start again. I have no idea where she’d been hiding it, but she produced a veritable mountain of poo.

Each time she caught me unprepared and, as a result, we managed to get poo on her jumpsuit, a couple of nappies, a nappy cover, a towelling nappy I put under her to protect the change mat cover, a towel I put under her to protect the change mat cover and the change mat cover. I also used about 10 baby wipes in my efforts to clean both of us up between spurts (because that’s what little baby poo does).

In amongst all this pooing I also learned a valuable lesson. Parents of boys learn very quickly about being squirted. I found out that girls can do it too. My dressing gown has been washed twice in as many days, which is unheard of. The first time was due to a combination of baby spew and snot and the second a liberal spraying of baby wee.

Keep all of this in mind as you watch that cute video. The child is a neverending supply of bodily secretions. How cute does she look now?
